The Faculty of Pharmacy, Pham Ngoc Thach University of
Medicine, respectfully and proudly extends its warmest congratulations to Ms. Moukda
Chanthavisouk, the first Laotian alumnus of the Faculty, for successfully
defending her Master's thesis in Pharmacy under the Master of Science Program
in Social, Economic and Administrative pharmacy (International Program) on
December 23, 2025, at the Faculty of Pharmacy, Mahidol University, Thailand.
This thesis, titled “Assessment of medication
literacy and medication adherence among patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus
in outpatient department of the Champasak Hospital in Lao PDR,” was
conducted under the scientific guidance of Asst. Prof. Dr. Farsai Chanjaruporn
and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Somying Pumtong. This research project has profound
scientific and practical significance, focusing on evaluating the level of
medication literacy and treatment adherence among patients with type 2 diabetes
mellitus – a growing public health concern in the Lao People’s Democratic
Republic and many countries in the region. The research results not only
contribute to the scientific database for clinical pharmacy and pharmaceutical
management but also offer practical suggestions for improving the effectiveness
of treatment and healthcare for patients.
Ms. Moukda Chanthavisouk, a former student of the
first BSc.’ program (2017-2022) of the Faculty of Pharmacy, Pham Ngoc Thach
University of Medicine, received a full scholarship from Mahidol University for
the entire course of study. Throughout her studies in Vietnam and during her
continued studies and research in an international environment, she
consistently demonstrated a serious learning spirit, a strong will to excel,
and a desire to contribute to the development of the pharmaceutical industry in
her homeland of Laos. Successfully defending her master's thesis is not only
the result of her persistent personal efforts but also a vivid testament to the
quality of training provided by the Faculty of Pharmacy, Pham Ngoc Thach
University of Medicine, in cultivating high-quality pharmaceutical human
resources for the region and internationally.
Ms. Moukda Chanthavisouk's achievement is even more
significant as it is recognized by Mahidol University – one of the leading
higher education institutions in Thailand and the region. Established in 1888,
Mahidol University currently comprises 17 faculties, 6 colleges, and 9 research
institutes, serving as a prestigious training and research center in many
fields, particularly medicine and pharmacy. According to the QS World
University Rankings 2024, Mahidol University ranks 368th globally and 2nd in Thailand,
with its medical programs highly regarded for both academic quality and
practical application. The successful defense of a thesis by a student from the
PNTU Faculty of Pharmacy at this renowned university is a source of pride for
the university, its faculty, and generations of students.
Today's success for Ms. Moukda Chanthavisouk not only
marks a significant milestone in her personal academic journey but also
contributes to further strengthening the cooperative relationship and academic
exchange between medical and pharmaceutical training institutions in the ASEAN
region. This is also a great source of encouragement for international students
and trainees currently studying and those who will be studying at the Faculty
of Pharmacy, Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine, affirming that with a
solid training foundation, continuous effort, and a spirit of integration,
students can confidently conquer the heights of knowledge in an international
academic environment.
